The Bible

1

Er-be dy row yn Chiarn hene er nyn lieh, foddee Israel nish gra: er-be dy row yn Chiarn hene er nyn lieh, tra dirree sleih seose nyn 'oï;

If the Lord himself had not been on our side, now may Israel say: if the Lord himself had not been on our side, when men rose up against us;

2

Veagh ad er nyn sluggey sheese bio: tra v'ad cha eulyssagh ayns corree rooin.

They had swallowed us up quick: when they were so wrathfully displeased at us.

3

Veagh ny ushtaghyn, dy feer, er vaih shin: as veagh y thooilley er n'gholl harrish nyn annym.

Yea the waters had drowned us: and the stream had gone over our soul.

4

Veagh ushtaghyn dowin ny mooaralee: er n'gholl eer harrish nyn anmeenyn.

The deep waters of the proud: had gone even over our soul.

5

Agh moylley dy row gys y Chiarn: nagh vel er livrey shin seose son spooilley da ny feeacklyn oc.

But praised be the Lord: who hath not given us over for a prey unto their teeth.

6

Ta'n annym ain er scapail, dy jarroo myr ushag ass ribbey yn shelgeyr: ta'n ribbey er ny vrishey, as ta shin er nyn livrey.

Our soul is escaped even as a bird out of the snare of the fowler: the snare is broken, and we are delivered.

7

Ta'n cooney ainyn shassoo ayns Ennym y Chiarn: ta er chroo niau as thalloo.

Our help standeth in the Name of the Lord: who hath made heaven and earth.
